Did you know?

According to a study from UPenn, 1 million + criminal court dockets from 2016-2022 were analysed, and it was found that over 1.2k full-time public defenders, and only 6/66 state’s public defenders to meet caseload demands, further exacerbating the issue of 

The study analyzed nearly 1 million criminal court dockets from 2016 to 2022 and found that there should be more than 1,200 full-time public defenders in the state, but instead there are 850, representing a 30% shortfall. Only six of the state’s 66 counties have enough public defenders to meet the caseload demands, even under generous assumptions about the amount of time public defenders devote to client work.​​

We are a multinational student-led foundation/organisation aiming to promote the legal field to all students internationally through a multifaceted approach. At i-JUSTICE we put our utmost dedication to inspiring civic engagement, and to foster a passion for law among aspiring lawyers and students worldwide. i-JUSTICE is a dynamic student-led organisation with a mission to catalyse interest in the legal field across borders through a comprehensive, and engaging approach, our initiatives are not only designed to educate, but to also inspire the next generation of legal professionals and advocates. 

 

Our foundation is built upon three main components, which include mock trial competitions/tournaments, a legal podcast, as well as a blog/website for updates on legal issues, and affairs globally. My name is Faythe Cheung

Faythe, a Junior at Shekou International School, aims to become a successful criminal defense lawyer, advocating for injustices in the judicial system. Passionate about public speaking and change, she holds leadership roles in Model UN and Debate. In her free time, she enjoys works by Joan Didion and Ottessa Moshfegh.

Faythe aims to attend top US University to sharpen her skills in law and advocacy, with the goal of becoming a distinguished criminal defense lawyer. She is committed to driving meaningful change in the legal system, advocating for justice and equity on a global scale.

Currently, i-JUSTICE consists of members in the UAE, USA (multiple states), Pakistan, HK/SZ, and we plan on expanding to as many regions and states. As we continue to expand, our vision extends to reach new regions, and states to foster a global network of legal enthusiasts and advocates.

With a commitment to exploring legal issues through our multi-faceted approach, we hope to transform legal education, inspire civic engagement, and shape the future of the legal landscape, one student at a time.

What are Mock Trial? How does it work?

Step into the captivating realm of Mock Trial, a dynamic educational activity that brings the courtroom to life. Designed for students and aspiring lawyers, Mock Trial offers an immersive experience that hones critical thinking, persuasive advocacy, and legal understanding.

 

In Mock Trial, participants take on roles as attorneys, witnesses, and judges, delving into a fictitious legal case with realistic details. Teams prepare meticulously, strategizing their arguments and examining evidence. The trial unfolds with opening statements, direct examinations, cross-examinations, and compelling closing arguments.

This engaging process cultivates essential skills such as effective communication, logical reasoning, and quick decision-making. It provides a deeper understanding of the legal system and equips participants with valuable abilities applicable in academia, professions, and everyday life.

What kind of cases are there in i-JUSTICE

In each Mock Trial competition, there will be a different theme, covering a wide range of both fictional and real civil cases, as well as encompassing both civil and criminal legal issues.
